Summer by the Seaside

bloglovin

My favourite thing about summer by the sea is the fact that it doesn't get too hot. I've spent the majority of my life welcoming summer each year with hot, sticky weather with nothing but a public pool to cool off in. Now that I live by the sea, I get to go to my favourite beaches to swim. Most of them are pretty quiet which is a huge bonus!

A couple of days ago, I went for a little drive down the Great Ocean Road to Cumberland River, just outside of Lorne. A couple of my family members were staying the weekend there so I drove my brother down so that he could join in on the fun.

Although it wasn't technically summer when I went, you could feel the anticipation in the air. Summer is not my favourite season. I much prefer the colours and brilliance of early-mid autumn but that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy summer for it's own reasons. I love how healthy I eat in summer. I basically live off fruit and salad when it gets warmer, as well as the occasional quintessential Australian barbecue. I love how social I am, it seems like once December rolls around my calendar just fills up with various events and planned activities. I also just spend more time in general outside enjoying the nice weather. I just really love all of the anticipation around this time of year!

Today I set up up three little wooden Christmas trees I purchased last week and they're sitting on a table in the corner glowing with light and it's making me very happy inside. I've also been listening to this playlist by my friend, Sophie all day!

  2. Sometimes I miss the summertime, even though I'm not a big fan of summer itself. But today it was so incredibly cold here, so looking at these pictures I can't help but think of the warm sun. So nice :D

    1. It was beautiful! But once the sun set it got quite cold, as it always does by the coast.

  4. You're right about the healthy eating thing! I do the same, salads are so great. I wish I lived near the beach, I would totally move if I could make my family all come with. I'm spending a week at new years in Apollo Bay and it's going to be wonderful! Nice photos to have, there's something about the last photo I love.

PS I'm glad I came across your blog, I've been hoping to find some people who live close-ish to myself; I like being able to relate more! Do you know any other bloggers from Victoria?

    1. Ooh! Enjoy Apollo Bay, it's so beautiful down along the Great Ocean Road this time of year! I think living inland also has its perks. I actually don't like living so close to the beach. I really only like it during summer when I go a little more frequently.

  5. Wow! Gorgeous photos! I too love a healthier lifestyle in summer, the fruits and also the desire to be more active than in winter.

What I love about summer is that people are more relaxed and chilled.

    1. People are more relaxed during warmer months! In winter I kind of just want to hibernate under a blanket.

  6. Hhahahaah Christmas on the Southern hemisphere fascinates me to no end! I guess cause I am just so used to the cold, the lights, the snow around the holiday season. I guess my favorite thing about Christmas is the lively atmosphere - winter still feels fresh and new and beautiful! Favorite summer things are going to the beach (your photographs make me miss the ocean so much!) and lazing in the sunlight.

    1. I REALLY want to experience a white Christmas. I just see what the rest of the world is up to at this time of year and I want to adorn a tacky christmas jumper and have snow fights. We should trade places one year ;)

  11. These photos are lovely!! I miss the beach D:
Also, I'm not a fan of summer since I live in Southern California, and it can really, really hot during that time. We have our Christmas during fall/winter time so it's pretty cool.

Love the playlist, by the way. Yay for new music!

    1. Thank you Eena!! I think your fall/winter is actually pretty similar to my summer median temp. It doesn't get majorly hot in this part of the world except for a few odd days.

since I'm from the states, our christmas is a little different due to the weather, but...
i do love all of the lights from the tree late at night, cuddling up to the fire with a mug of hot cocoa and sweet friends and family :)

  13. Really lovely photos - it looks like you all had a lovely day at the seaside. I can only imagine how lovely it must be to live by the sea and feel the cool breeze come in and smell the salt in the air.
